The Holland Area Transit bus route 3 (West Side Connector) stops at the intersection of Centennial Street and US-31, a 0.2-mile walk to the park entrance.

Historical & Ecological Origin

The land was acquired by the City of Holland in 1966, designated for park development to commemorate the city's centennial. The park was formally opened in 1976. The area was previously agricultural land, with the Black River serving as a historical transportation route. The pond was constructed in the early 1980s as part of a stormwater management and aesthetic enhancement project.

Activities include playground use, picnicking at designated shelters, walking or jogging on the paved trails, and fishing in the Black River. For photography, early morning (7 AM - 9 AM) offers softer light. The best months for general use are May through October, with average temperatures ranging from 60°F to 80°F. Spring (April-May) is optimal for observing migratory birds. Winter offers opportunities for ice skating, typically from December to February, dependent on weather.

A local anecdote suggests that during the park's initial development, a rare species of turtle was discovered in the Black River, leading to a temporary halt in construction to ensure its protection. While not officially documented, this story is often shared by long-time residents.
