Coastal PlayGrove, Eastern Region, Singapore, Asia
Coastal PlayGrove is a public recreational area situated along the eastern coastline of Singapore.
This facility offers a variety of interactive water features and play structures designed for public use.
Visual Characteristics
The PlayGrove features a series of shallow water pools and spray fountains constructed from concrete and durable plastic. Play structures include elevated walkways, slides, and climbing nets. The dominant colors are muted blues, grays, and greens, designed to blend with the coastal environment. The area is open, with minimal vertical structures, allowing unobstructed views of the adjacent sea.
Location & Access Logistics
Coastal PlayGrove is located at 25 East Coast Park Service Road, Singapore 449879. It is approximately 12 kilometers east of the Singapore Central Business District. Access by car is via East Coast Parkway (ECP), exiting at Bedok. Parking is available in Carpark C2, located adjacent to the PlayGrove. Public transport options include SBS Transit bus service 401, which stops directly at the PlayGrove entrance during weekends and public holidays. During weekdays, visitors can take bus service 16 from the city center to the East Coast Park bus stop, followed by a 10-minute walk.
Historical & Ecological Origin
Coastal PlayGrove was developed as part of a larger urban regeneration project for Singapore's eastern coastline, completed in 2018. The site was previously undeveloped coastal land. The area's ecological context is a sandy shoreline with marine life typical of the Straits of Singapore, though the immediate PlayGrove area is largely artificial.
Key Highlights & Activities
Activities include water play in designated spray zones, use of the water slides, and exploration of the elevated play structures. The area is suitable for children's recreation. No specific guided tours or scheduled events are offered.
Infrastructure & Amenities
Restrooms and changing facilities are located within the main pavilion. Shaded seating areas are provided under canopies. Cell phone signal (4G/5G) is generally strong throughout the area. Food vendors are not present within the PlayGrove itself, but kiosks and cafes are situated within a 500-meter radius along East Coast Park.
Best Time to Visit
The best time for water play is during daylight hours. For photography, early morning (07:00-09:00) offers softer light. The months of February to April typically have lower rainfall. High tide or low tide does not significantly impact the functionality of the water play features.
Facts & Legends
A unique feature is the integration of recycled materials in the construction of some play elements, contributing to the site's sustainability credentials. Local folklore does not attribute specific legends to this modern recreational facility.
