Cote d'Or Beach, Praslin, Seychelles, Africa
Cote d'Or Beach is a 3-kilometer stretch of coastline located on the northern side of Praslin Island in the Seychelles archipelago.
Visual Characteristics
The beach features fine, pale golden sand. The water exhibits a gradient from clear turquoise near the shore to a deeper blue further out. Coconut palms and Takamaka trees line the landward edge of the beach, providing intermittent shade.
Location & Access Logistics
Cote d'Or Beach is situated approximately 5 kilometers east of Baie Sainte Anne, the main port town on Praslin. Access is via the coastal road, Grand Anse Road, which runs parallel to the beach. Parking is available along the roadside in designated areas and in small informal lots. Public bus routes 6A and 6B service the area, with stops directly adjacent to the beach.
Historical & Ecological Origin
The beach is a natural formation, part of the granitic island geology of the Seychelles. The sand is composed of eroded granite particles. The coastal vegetation is typical of tropical island environments.
Key Highlights & Activities
Swimming is possible in calm conditions. Snorkeling can be undertaken in the shallow reef areas, particularly towards the eastern end of the beach. Kayak and paddleboard rentals are available from vendors located along the beachfront. Walking the length of the beach is a common activity.
Infrastructure & Amenities
Restrooms are available at intervals along the beach, often associated with restaurants. Shade is provided by natural tree cover and some rented umbrellas. Cell phone signal (4G) is generally consistent. Several restaurants and small food stalls are located directly behind the beach.
Best Time to Visit
For photography, early morning (07:00-09:00) and late afternoon (16:00-18:00) offer softer light. The driest months are typically June to September, with calmer seas. High tide can reduce the visible sand area.
Facts & Legends
The beach is known locally as Anse Volbert. It is a popular nesting site for Green Sea Turtles during specific seasons, though sightings are not guaranteed.
