Currier Park was established in 1958 through a land donation from the Currier family, who owned a significant granite quarrying operation in the area. The park's original purpose was to provide recreational space for local residents. The pond is a result of excavation for fill material during the park's development. Local lore suggests that during the park's construction, workers unearthed a large, unusually shaped granite boulder that was subsequently incorporated into the landscaping near the pond's northern edge. This boulder is said to resemble a sleeping bear.
