Historical & Ecological Origin
The building was originally constructed in 1929 by the National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) as a manufacturing facility. It operated as a box-printing plant until 2003. The museum is open year-round, but spring and fall offer pleasant weather for travel to the region. Check the museum's website for specific hours of operation, as these can vary seasonally.
Facts & Legends
The sheer scale of the building allowed artists to create monumental works that would not fit in traditional gallery spaces. One notable installation by artist Robert Smithson, "Partially Buried Woodshed," is a permanent fixture, though not always on public display.
