The chiefdom compound consists of several mud-brick structures with thatched roofs, typical of Gourma architecture. The main building, the chief's residence, is a single-story structure with thick walls designed for thermal regulation. The compound is enclosed by a low, rough-hewn stone wall. The surrounding area is characterized by dry savanna vegetation, with scattered acacia trees and sparse grasses.

The Fada Traditional Chiefdom is situated within the town of Fada N'Gourma, approximately 2 kilometers south of the central market square. Access is via unpaved local roads branching off the RN4 highway. Parking is available on the unpaved area adjacent to the compound entrance. Public transport within Fada N'Gourma consists of moto-taxis; no specific bus lines serve the chiefdom directly.

The chiefdom's origins trace back to the establishment of the Gourma Kingdom in the 15th century. The current compound's structures have been rebuilt and maintained over generations, with the current configuration largely dating from the early 20th century. The ecological zone is classified as Sudanian savanna, characterized by a distinct wet and dry season.

The best time of day for photography is during the early morning or late afternoon when the sun angle provides softer light and longer shadows. A local tradition states that the founding chief of Fada N'Gourma was guided to the site by a specific type of bird, the Abyssinian Ground Hornbill (Bucorvus abyssinicus), which is still considered a symbol of the chiefdom.
