The current Pleasure Pier opened in 2012, built on the site of the former Pleasure Pier which was destroyed by Hurricane Ike in 2008. The original Pleasure Pier was constructed in 1943 by the U.S. Navy as a recreational facility. The pier's foundation is built into the seabed of the Gulf of Mexico.
