Turn east onto Navajo Boulevard, then south onto 13th Street. The park entrance is on the west side of 13th Street. Parking is available at the designated lot adjacent to the interpretive center. No public transport directly serves the park.

The footprints were created during the Late Triassic period, approximately 200 million years ago, by various dinosaur species that inhabited the area when it was a shallow sea or river delta. The sandstone is part of the Petrified Forest Formation.
