A paid parking lot is available within the park, with capacity for approximately 200 vehicles. Public transport options include Broward County Transit bus route 40, which stops near the park entrance on Sunrise Boulevard.
Historical & Ecological Origin
The land was originally part of the estate of Hugh Taylor Birch, a prominent Fort Lauderdale landowner. It was acquired by the state and established as a park in 1949. The park preserves a section of the coastal dune ecosystem characteristic of the South Florida Atlantic coast.

Activities include cycling on the 1.75-mile paved loop road, kayaking and paddleboarding on the freshwater lagoon, and picnicking at designated areas. Fishing is permitted in the lagoon. Nature observation of local bird species and other wildlife is also a primary activity.

For photography, early morning or late afternoon offers optimal lighting conditions. The best months for comfortable weather are typically November through April, avoiding the peak heat and humidity of summer. The freshwater lagoon is accessible year-round.
Facts & Legends
Hugh Taylor Birch's daughter, Ann Adams, donated the land to the state with the stipulation that it remain a public park and that the historic Birch House, located on the property, be preserved. The house is not open to the public but is visible from the park grounds.
