Industry Bay, Bequia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, North America

Industry Bay is a coastal area located on the island of Bequia in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

It is characterized by its shoreline and surrounding terrain.

Visual Characteristics

The bay features a shoreline composed of coarse sand and small pebbles. The water color is typically a clear turquoise, transitioning to deeper blue further offshore. The immediate landward side consists of low-lying scrub vegetation and scattered palm trees. The bay is approximately 500 meters in length.

Location & Access Logistics

Industry Bay is situated on the southern coast of Bequia. It is approximately 4 kilometers south of Port Elizabeth, the main town. Access is via the paved road named "Friendship Bay Road" which leads directly to the bay. Parking is available along the roadside adjacent to the beach. Public transport is limited; minibuses operate on the main road but do not directly service the bay itself. A short walk of approximately 200 meters from the main road is required.

Historical & Ecological Origin

Industry Bay is a natural coastal formation, a small embayment carved by wave action over geological time. The area's ecological classification is a tropical coastal zone, supporting a mix of terrestrial and marine life adapted to this environment.

Key Highlights & Activities

Swimming is possible in the bay. Beachcombing along the shoreline is an available activity. Observation of local birdlife is also possible.

Infrastructure & Amenities

There are no permanent restroom facilities or designated shade structures directly at Industry Bay. Food vendors are not consistently present. Cell phone signal (4G) is generally available in the vicinity.

Best Time to Visit

For photography, the late afternoon (approximately 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM) offers favorable lighting conditions. The dry season, from January to May, provides the most consistent weather. There are no specific tide requirements for general access or activities.

Facts & Legends

Local lore suggests that during the late 19th century, attempts were made to establish a small industrial operation in the bay, hence its name, though historical records of this are scarce.
