Jomtien Beach, Pattaya, Thailand, Asia
Jomtien Beach is a 6-kilometer-long stretch of coastline located south of Pattaya, Thailand.
It is characterized by its long, sandy shoreline and a developed promenade.
Visual Characteristics
The beach consists of light brown sand. The water color varies from greenish-blue to a more opaque green depending on weather conditions and sediment. A paved promenade runs along the entire length of the beach, with a line of coconut palm trees providing intermittent shade. Low-rise condominiums and hotels are situated behind the promenade.
Location & Access Logistics
Jomtien Beach is situated approximately 3 kilometers south of central Pattaya. Access is via Jomtien Beach Road, which runs parallel to the coastline. Numerous parking areas are available along Jomtien Beach Road and its side streets. Public transport is readily available via the local baht bus (songthaew) system, with routes running frequently along Jomtien Beach Road connecting to Pattaya city center.
Historical & Ecological Origin
Jomtien Beach is a natural coastal feature. Its development into a tourist area began in the late 20th century, with significant infrastructure improvements occurring in the 1980s and 1990s to accommodate tourism growth.
Key Highlights & Activities
Activities include swimming, sunbathing, and water sports such as jet skiing and parasailing. The promenade is used for walking and cycling. Numerous beachfront restaurants and bars offer dining and refreshments.
Infrastructure & Amenities
Restrooms are available at intervals along the promenade, often associated with restaurants or public facilities. Shade is provided by palm trees and umbrellas at rented sun loungers. Cell phone signal (4G/5G) is generally strong. Food vendors and restaurants are abundant along Jomtien Beach Road.
Best Time to Visit
The best time of day for photography is generally in the late afternoon, approximately 2-3 hours before sunset, for softer lighting. The dry season, from November to February, offers the most pleasant weather with lower humidity and less rainfall. High tide can reduce the visible sand area.
Facts & Legends
A local point of interest is the Jomtien Fishing Park, located inland from the beach, which attracts anglers. The beach is known for its more relaxed atmosphere compared to the central Pattaya beaches.
