Koh Pich, also known as Diamond Island, is a man-made island situated in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

It is located at the confluence of the Tonle Sap and Mekong Rivers.

Visual Characteristics

The island features a mix of modern infrastructure and open green spaces. Paved roads and sidewalks are prevalent. Several large, contemporary buildings, including convention centers and residential complexes, are visible. The perimeter is largely developed with concrete embankments and some landscaped areas.

Location & Access Logistics

Koh Pich is accessible via the Monivong Bridge from the mainland of Phnom Penh. The island is approximately 3 kilometers South-East of the city center. Vehicle access is direct via the bridge. Parking is available in designated lots around event venues and commercial areas. Public transport options include local bus routes that terminate near the bridge, requiring a short walk or taxi ride onto the island.

Historical & Ecological Origin

Koh Pich is an artificial island, created through land reclamation and development projects that began in the early 2000s. It was designed to expand the urban landscape of Phnom Penh and provide space for commercial and residential development.

Key Highlights & Activities

Visitors can walk or cycle along the developed promenades. The island hosts various public events and festivals throughout the year. Specific activities depend on current programming, which may include concerts, exhibitions, and sporting events. The Phnom Penh Night Market is located on the island.

Infrastructure & Amenities

Restrooms are available in commercial buildings and event venues. Shade is provided by trees in landscaped areas and by the structures themselves. Cell phone signal (4G/5G) is generally strong across the island. Food vendors and restaurants are located within the commercial zones and near the night market.

Best Time to Visit

The best time of day for photography is late afternoon, approximately 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, when the sun is lower and casts longer shadows. The dry season, from November to April, offers the most pleasant weather conditions. There are no tide-dependent activities.

Facts & Legends

A notable event associated with Koh Pich was the 2010 stampede during the Water Festival, which resulted in a significant loss of life on the bridge connecting the island to the mainland. This tragedy led to increased safety measures for public gatherings.
