The monument features a central obelisk constructed from concrete and faced with white marble. It stands approximately 20 meters in height. At its base, bronze relief sculptures depict scenes from the battle. The surrounding plaza is paved with grey concrete and features low-lying planters with tropical foliage.

The monument is situated in the Plaza de la Revolución, approximately 1 kilometer west of the Bayamo city center. Access is via Avenida de la Revolución. Public parking is available along the side streets surrounding the plaza. Local bus routes 1 and 3 pass within 200 meters of the site.

Construction of the monument began in 1961 and was completed in 1964. It was designed by architect Emilio Amargós and sculptor Rita Longa. The monument's purpose is to honor the events of the Toma de Bayamo, which occurred on October 20, 1868, during the Ten Years' War.
