Parque 2 de Febrero, Chaco, Argentina, South America

Parque 2 de Febrero is a public park located in the city of Chaco, Argentina.

This urban green space serves as a recreational area for residents and visitors.

Visual Characteristics

The park features a central artificial lake, approximately 100 meters in diameter, with a small island in its center. Surrounding the lake are paved walking paths and open grassy areas. Mature trees, primarily eucalyptus and jacaranda species, provide canopy cover. The park's perimeter is defined by low concrete walls and iron fencing.

Location & Access Logistics

Parque 2 de Febrero is situated 2 kilometers south of the Chaco city center. Access is via Avenida 9 de Julio, a major arterial road. Parking is available along the park's eastern boundary on Calle Alberdi, with approximately 50 marked spaces. Public transport options include the Linea 3 bus, which stops directly in front of the park's main entrance on Avenida 9 de Julio.

Historical & Ecological Origin

The park was established in 1948 to commemorate the founding date of the city. It was designed by landscape architect Juan Pérez. The area was originally a marshland that was drained and landscaped for public use. The dominant tree species were selected for their drought resistance and rapid growth.

Key Highlights & Activities

Activities include walking the perimeter paths, picnicking on the grass, and observing waterfowl on the lake. A small playground area is located on the western side of the park. Fishing is not permitted in the lake.

Infrastructure & Amenities

Restrooms are located near the main entrance on Avenida 9 de Julio. Several shaded picnic tables are distributed throughout the park. Cell phone signal (4G) is generally consistent within the park boundaries. No food vendors operate within the park; however, commercial establishments are present along Avenida 9 de Julio.

Best Time to Visit

For photography, the late afternoon (16:00-18:00) offers favorable lighting conditions due to the western sun angle. The months of September through November provide pleasant temperatures for outdoor activities. The park is accessible year-round during daylight hours.

Facts & Legends

A local anecdote suggests that the island in the lake was once used as a secret meeting point during political unrest in the mid-20th century, though no official records confirm this.
