Historical & Ecological Origin
The area was historically used for agriculture and cattle ranching by the indigenous Tahamí people. In the 20th century, it was designated as a protected forest reserve. Its ecological significance lies in its role as a vital watershed and a habitat for numerous endemic and migratory bird species. The park is part of the larger Aburrá Valley's ecological corridor.

Restrooms are available at the main entrance near the Metrocable station. Limited shaded areas are present along some trails. Cell phone signal (4G) is intermittent within the park, with better reception near the entrance. Food vendors and small restaurants are located at the entrance plaza and the artisanal market.
Best Time to Visit
The best time for hiking and birdwatching is during the dry season, from December to March and July to August. Mornings offer clearer light for photography. The park is open year-round, but rain is common, especially in the afternoons. High humidity is typical.
Facts & Legends
A local legend speaks of the "Laguna de las Sombras" (Lagoon of Shadows), a small body of water within the park said to be inhabited by spirits. Scientifically, the park is recognized for its significant contribution to Medellín's air quality and water regulation.
