Alternatively, a seasonal ferry service operates from the Riviera Beach Marina, located at 200 East 13th Street, Riviera Beach, FL 33404. Parking is available at the Riviera Beach Marina, with a fee typically charged. Public bus routes serving the Riviera Beach Marina include Palm Tran routes 1 and 41.
Historical & Ecological Origin
The island was created in 1918 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as part of a dredging project to improve navigation in the Lake Worth Inlet. Its original purpose was to serve as a spoil island for dredged material. The island's ecological classification is a man-made coastal habitat, supporting various marine and bird species.

A unique feature of Peanut Island is the presence of a Cold War-era bunker, constructed in 1961 for Palm Beach County officials in case of nuclear attack. The bunker is open for tours on select days.
