Historical Origin
Robert and Clara Schumann moved into this newly built apartment on their wedding day, September 12, 1840. They lived here until 1844. This period was Robert’s "Year of Song" (Liederjahr), during which he composed approximately 150 songs, including Dichterliebe. It was also here that Clara established her international reputation as a concert pianist and composer while balancing her role as a young mother. The house was heavily damaged during WWII but was meticulously restored and reopened as a museum and school in 1999.
