Visual Characteristics

The lighthouse is a cylindrical concrete structure with a white exterior. It stands approximately 60 feet (18 meters) tall from the water line to the lantern room. The lantern room features a red roof and a white railing. A white dwelling structure is attached to the base of the tower.

The lighthouse is located approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 km) offshore from Cummings Park in Stamford. Access is primarily by private boat. There are no public ferry services directly to the lighthouse. Limited parking is available at marinas in Stamford, such as Stamford Landing Marina, from which boat charters can be arranged.

Historical & Ecological Origin

Construction of the current lighthouse was completed in 1905. It replaced an earlier screw-pile lighthouse built in 1882. The original purpose was to guide maritime traffic into Stamford Harbor and along the Connecticut coastline. The structure is built on a concrete foundation anchored to the seabed.

Observation of the lighthouse from a boat is the primary activity. Photography of the structure is possible from various vantage points on the water. No public access to the interior of the lighthouse is permitted.
