Takapuna Beach is located approximately 10 kilometers north of Auckland's central business district. Access is via Lake Pupuke Drive and The Strand. Public parking is available along The Strand and in designated lots off Lake Pupuke Drive. Bus routes 020, 030, and 035 stop within a 5-minute walk of the beach access points.
Historical & Ecological Origin
The beach is part of the Waitematā Harbour coastline, formed by coastal erosion and sediment deposition over millennia. The area was historically a significant site for Māori settlement, with evidence of pā sites in the vicinity.

Swimming is permitted. Kayaking and paddleboarding are common activities. Walking the length of the beach is possible. Fishing from the shore is undertaken by some visitors.
