Facts & Legends

During the Civil War, Tannehill Ironworks was a critical supplier of iron for the Confederacy. It was targeted by Union forces, and while the furnaces were damaged, they were not completely destroyed, allowing for their eventual restoration. A local legend speaks of the "Iron Man" who guards the furnaces, a spectral figure seen by some visitors on moonless nights.
