The ship's armament includes 5-inch guns and 20mm anti-aircraft cannons.

Construction of the USS Lexington began on May 26, 1941, at the Bethlehem Steel Company's Fore River Shipyard in Quincy, Massachusetts. It was commissioned on February 17, 1943. The ship's original purpose was to serve as an aircraft carrier for the United States Navy during World War II. It earned 11 battle stars and the Presidential Unit Citation for its service.
