Aglou Beach, Tiznit, Morocco, Africa

Aglou Beach is a coastal area situated south of Aglou village, within the administrative boundaries of Tiznit province, Morocco.

Visual Characteristics

The beach consists of a wide expanse of coarse, golden sand. The Atlantic Ocean waters are typically a deep blue, with moderate to strong wave action. Rocky outcrops and cliffs define the northern and southern extremities of the beach. Vegetation is sparse, primarily consisting of low-lying coastal scrub.

Location & Access Logistics

Aglou Beach is located approximately 20 kilometers northwest of Tiznit. Access is via the P107 regional road, turning off onto a smaller, unpaved track for the final 2 kilometers. Limited, informal parking is available directly on the sand near the main access point. No public transport services operate directly to the beach; bus services to Aglou village are available from Tiznit.

Historical & Ecological Origin

The beach is a natural formation, part of the Atlantic coastline of Morocco. The underlying geology consists of sedimentary rock formations. Ecologically, it is a coastal zone subject to tidal influences and marine erosion.

Key Highlights & Activities

Surfing and bodyboarding are primary activities due to consistent wave conditions. Fishing from the shore is practiced by local residents. Walking along the coastline is possible, particularly at low tide.

Infrastructure & Amenities

There are no permanent restroom facilities or designated shade structures. Informal food stalls may operate during peak tourist seasons, but availability is not guaranteed. Cell phone signal (4G) is generally available.

Best Time to Visit

For surfing, conditions are most consistent between October and April. Mid-morning and late afternoon offer optimal lighting for photography due to the angle of the sun. High tide is generally preferred for swimming, while low tide exposes more of the beach area.

Facts & Legends

Local fishermen report sightings of dolphins offshore throughout the year. A specific legend speaks of ancient shipwrecks buried beneath the sands, though no verifiable evidence exists.
