The Cap Africa Lighthouse, known locally as Phare du Cap Afrique, is a maritime navigation aid situated on the eastern coast of Tunisia, near the city of Mahdia.
Visual Characteristics
The lighthouse structure is a cylindrical tower constructed from white-painted concrete. It stands approximately 30 meters (98 feet) in height. A red lantern room is positioned at the apex of the tower. The base of the lighthouse is surrounded by a low, circular wall.

The lighthouse is located approximately 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) east of Mahdia's city center. Access is via the P1 coastal road, turning onto an unpaved track for the final 1 kilometer. Parking is available on a gravel area adjacent to the lighthouse. Public transport does not directly serve the lighthouse; a taxi or private vehicle is required from Mahdia.

The Cap Africa Lighthouse was constructed in 1938 by the French colonial administration to guide maritime traffic along the Tunisian coast. Its purpose was to mark the promontory and warn ships of the shallow waters in the vicinity.
