Castle Hill Lighthouse is a historic lighthouse situated at the eastern end of Narragansett Bay in Newport, Rhode Island.
It marks the entrance to the East Passage of Narragansett Bay and the mouth of the Sakonnet River.
Visual Characteristics
The lighthouse is a conical, stone tower with a height of 46 feet (14 meters). It is constructed from granite blocks. The tower is painted white, and the lantern room at the top is black. A red brick keeper's house, now a private residence, is attached to the base of the tower.

Castle Hill Lighthouse is located at the end of Ocean Drive in Newport, Rhode Island. It is approximately 5 miles (8 km) southwest of Newport's city center. Access is via Ocean Drive, a scenic public road. Parking is available in a small lot adjacent to the lighthouse, which can accommodate approximately 15-20 vehicles. Public transportation options are limited; the nearest bus stop is several miles away, requiring a significant walk or taxi service.

Construction of Castle Hill Lighthouse was completed in 1890. It was built by the United States Lighthouse Board to aid navigation into Narragansett Bay. The site is composed of rocky shoreline and coastal scrub vegetation, characteristic of the New England coast.

For photography, the late afternoon offers favorable lighting conditions as the sun sets over the western side of the bay. The months of May through October provide the most pleasant weather. Tidal conditions do not significantly impact access to the lighthouse grounds.
Facts & Legends
The keeper's house, attached to the lighthouse, was once the residence of the lighthouse keeper and their family. It is now a private dwelling and not part of the public access area.
