The church features a single nave with a barrel-vaulted ceiling. The exterior walls are constructed from laterite stone, plastered and whitewashed. The facade is characterized by a central tower with a dome, flanked by two smaller towers. The interior contains ornate altars, including a main altar dedicated to the Holy Spirit and side altars dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi and Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. The flooring is made of mosaic tiles.

Construction of the Church of St. Francis of Assisi began in 1521 and was completed in 1527. It was built by Franciscan friars who arrived in Goa in 1517.
