Fisherman's Bastion (Halászbástya) is a neo-Romanesque monument and viewing terrace located on the Buda bank of the Danube, within the Castle District. It is situated approximately 600 meters north of Buda Castle.
Visual Characteristics
The structure is defined by its ornate white stone construction, featuring seven pointed stone towers (turrets), colonnades, and sweeping staircases. Its architectural style is a blend of neo-Romanesque and neo-Gothic, designed to appear like a medieval fortress despite being a decorative construction.

Historical & Symbolic Origin
Built between 1895 and 1902 to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of the Hungarian state. It was designed by architect Frigyes Schulek. The seven towers represent the seven Magyar tribes that settled in the Carpathian Basin in 895. The name "Fisherman" refers to the medieval guild of fishermen who were responsible for defending this stretch of the city walls.
