The bridge is constructed from steel and measures 705 meters (2,313 feet) in length. Its deck is 21.6 meters (71 feet) wide. The structure features two main piers, each 82 meters (269 feet) high, supporting the cantilever arms. The overall design is characteristic of a cantilever truss bridge.

The Howrah Bridge is situated approximately 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) west of the Kolkata city center. Access is via Strand Road on the Kolkata side and Grand Trunk Road on the Howrah side. Extensive road networks connect to both approaches. Parking is severely limited in the immediate vicinity; visitors are advised to utilize public transport or taxis.
