Historical & Ecological Origin
Isla Bastimentos is part of the Bocas del Toro archipelago, which formed through volcanic activity and subsequent marine sedimentation. Historically, the island was inhabited by indigenous Ngäbe and Buglé people before European arrival. It later served as a site for banana plantations and research stations.
