The fort is constructed primarily from laterite stone and brick. Its current visible structure consists of remnants of walls, bastions, and a central keep. The walls are approximately 1 meter thick. The remaining sections stand at an average height of 3 meters. The architectural style reflects 18th-century Malay fortification design.

The fort is accessible by private vehicle, with limited parking available near the site. Public bus route 101 from Alor Setar Bus Terminal stops within a 500-meter walk of the fort.

Historical & Ecological Origin

Construction of the fort began in 1771 under the order of Sultan Abdullah Mukarram Shah I of Kedah. Its primary purpose was to defend the state from Siamese and Burmese incursions and to control maritime trade along the Kedah River.
