Historical & Ecological Origin

Facts & Legends
Makoshika is derived from the Assiniboine words "mako" (earth) and "shika" (bad), translating to "bad earth." This name reflects the challenging terrain and the historical perception of the area. A notable find within the park was a nearly complete Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton.
