Construction of Mecca Masjid began in 1614 under the reign of Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, the fifth ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty. It was completed in 1694 by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The mosque was built using bricks made from soil collected from Mecca, hence its name. The architectural style blends Qutb Shahi and Mughal influences.
