Mount Baldy is situated approximately 15 miles (24 km) east of Eagar, Arizona. Access is via U.S. Route 191 North. Turn east onto Forest Road 249 (also known as Mount Baldy Road). This gravel road is generally well-maintained but can be rough in sections. Parking is available at the trailhead located at the end of Forest Road 249. No public transport services reach the trailhead.

Mount Baldy is a stratovolcano, part of the White Mountains volcanic field. Its formation dates back to the Pliocene epoch, approximately 3 to 5 million years ago. The peak's name derives from its treeless summit.

Hiking is the primary activity. The Mount Baldy Trail (Trail #151) ascends to the summit. The trail is 4.5 miles (7.2 km) one-way. The ascent involves significant elevation gain. Wildlife viewing opportunities exist along the trail.

Restrooms are available at the trailhead parking area. There is no cell phone signal at the trailhead or on most of the trail. No food vendors are present at the trailhead. Shade is abundant on the forested slopes but absent on the summit.

The best months for hiking are from June through October, avoiding winter snowpack. The best time of day for photography is early morning or late afternoon for softer light on the slopes. High-altitude conditions can change rapidly; afternoon thunderstorms are common during summer months.

The summit of Mount Baldy is considered sacred by the Navajo people, who refer to it as Dził Náʼoodǫ́ʼii. Access to the summit area is restricted during certain times of the year for cultural preservation. Visitors should respect these restrictions.
