Location & Access Logistics
Access to Mount Misen is via Miyajima Island. From Hiroshima city center, take the JR Sanyo Line to Miyajimaguchi Station (approximately 25 minutes). From Miyajimaguchi Port, take a JR ferry or a Matsudai ferry to Miyajima Port (approximately 10 minutes). From Miyajima Port, the base of Mount Misen is accessible by foot or by local bus. The Miyajima Ropeway operates from Momijidani Park to the fifth station of Mount Misen. Parking is available at Miyajimaguchi Port, but is limited and paid.

Mount Misen is a geological formation composed primarily of granite. Its ecological classification is temperate deciduous broadleaf forest, with some evergreen elements at lower elevations. The island itself is considered part of the Setonaikai National Park. The Daisho-in Temple, located at the base, dates back to the 9th century.

Food vendors and restaurants are located near Miyajima Port and in the main village area.
Best Time to Visit
For clear views, the best time of day is mid-morning or late afternoon when the sun angle is lower. The best months for weather are typically April to May and September to October, offering mild temperatures and lower rainfall. High tide is not a factor for accessing Mount Misen itself.
Facts & Legends
Legend states that the sacred flame at Misen Hondo was lit by Kobo Daishi, the founder of Shingon Buddhism, in the 9th century. It is said that this flame has been continuously burning since then and was used to light the Peace Flame at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. A specific tip for visitors is to wear sturdy footwear, as the hiking trails can be steep and uneven.
