The port features a breakwater constructed from concrete and stone. Mooring facilities include several piers and jetties. The water within the harbor is typically a deep blue, influenced by the Black Sea. Surrounding the port are buildings characteristic of the old town, with stone foundations and wooden upper stories, painted in muted earth tones.

Access is directly from the main road leading into Nessebar town, following signs for the Old Town and Port. Parking is available in designated lots on the mainland side of the peninsula, approximately 500 meters from the port entrance. Public transport includes bus lines 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 9, 11, and 12, which stop at the entrance to the peninsula, a 10-minute walk from the port.
Historical & Ecological Origin
The port's origins are tied to the ancient Thracian settlement of Mesambria, founded in the 6th century BC. Its strategic location facilitated trade and defense for millennia. The current infrastructure has been developed and modernized over various periods, with significant upgrades in the late 20th and early 21st centuries to accommodate modern vessels and increased tourism. Ecologically, the area is part of the Black Sea marine ecosystem, characterized by brackish water conditions.

The best months for visiting are from May to September, with peak tourist season in July and August. Tidal variations in the Black Sea are minimal and do not typically impact port operations.
Facts & Legends
A local legend suggests that the ancient inhabitants of Nessebar believed the port was guarded by a sea spirit that protected their ships from storms. Historically, the port has been a crucial point for the Byzantine, Bulgarian, and Ottoman empires, serving as a naval base and trade hub.
