Orchard Beach is a public beach located on the western shore of the Pelham Bay peninsula in the Bronx, New York City.
It is the only public beach in the Bronx.

The beach features a 1.1-mile (1.8 km) crescent of sand. The sand is light brown. The water is typically a greenish-brown, reflecting the waters of the Long Island Sound. Behind the beach, a promenade runs parallel to the shoreline, backed by a large parking area and a concession building. The area is bordered by Pelham Bay Park, which includes wooded areas and marshland.

Orchard Beach is situated at 1 Orchard Beach Esplanade, Bronx, NY 10464. It is approximately 15 miles (24 km) northeast of Midtown Manhattan. Access by car is via the Hutchinson River Parkway or the New England Thruway (I-95). Take exit 14 for Orchard Beach. Parking is available in a large, paved lot directly behind the beach, with fees typically charged during the summer season. Public transportation options include the Bx12 bus, which runs from the Fordham subway station, and the Bx29 bus, which runs from the Co-op City area. During the summer, express buses from various Manhattan locations also serve the beach.
Historical & Ecological Origin
Orchard Beach was constructed by Robert Moses and opened in 1936 as part of his extensive park development program in New York City. The beach was created by filling in marshland and dredging the shoreline. The area is part of Pelham Bay Park, which was established in 1888 and is the largest park in New York City, preserving significant natural habitats including salt marshes and forests.

Activities include swimming, sunbathing, and picnicking. The promenade is suitable for walking and cycling. Basketball courts and playgrounds are located adjacent to the beach. The beach is open daily from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. The best time of day for photography is generally in the late afternoon when the sun is lower, providing softer light. The warmest months for swimming are July and August. High tide is not a significant factor for beach access, but can affect swimming conditions.

Orchard Beach was designed to be a "working man's Riviera," providing a large-scale recreational facility accessible to the general public. The main pavilion, designed by architect Aymar Embury II, features a distinctive Art Deco style.
