Location & Access Logistics
Petit Tabac is situated approximately 1.5 kilometers east of Jamesby Island, the largest island in the Tobago Cays. Access is exclusively by boat. Charter yachts, water taxis, and local fishing boats operating from St. Vincent, Bequia, or Union Island are the primary means of transport. There is no direct road access or public ferry service. Mooring buoys are available for temporary anchoring, but anchoring directly on coral is prohibited.

Petit Tabac is a natural sand cay, formed by the accumulation of sand and coral fragments over time. It is part of the Tobago Cays Marine Park, established to protect the coral reef ecosystem and marine life, including sea turtles which frequent the area.
Key Highlights & Activities
The primary activity is snorkeling in the shallow waters surrounding the island, observing marine life. The island is also a popular spot for picnicking and relaxation. Visitors can walk the perimeter of the island, which takes approximately 15-20 minutes.
Infrastructure & Amenities
There are no permanent structures or facilities on Petit Tabac. Restrooms, food vendors, and cell phone service are not available on the island itself. These amenities are typically found on larger, inhabited islands within the Tobago Cays or on visiting vessels.
Best Time to Visit
The best time for clear water visibility and calm seas is generally between December and May, during the dry season. Mid-morning offers good lighting for underwater photography. Tidal conditions do not significantly impact access or activities on this shallow cay.
