Pinnacles Overlook is situated along the Badlands Loop Road (Highway 240) within Badlands National Park. It is approximately 30 kilometers east of Wall, South Dakota. Access is via paved road. Parking is available at designated pull-offs adjacent to the overlook. No public transport services operate within the park to this specific location.

For photography, early morning or late afternoon provides optimal lighting conditions for highlighting the rock textures and colors. The best months for visiting are May through September, offering generally dry weather. No tide considerations apply.

The Badlands formations are known for their fossil-rich deposits, containing evidence of ancient mammals. A specific geological feature to note is the presence of "fairy chimneys," which are tall, thin spires capped by a harder rock that protects the softer material beneath from erosion.
