The Princess Grace Rose Garden is a public botanical garden dedicated to roses, located within Fontvieille Park in Monaco Ville. It features a collection of various rose cultivars and is accessible to the public.

Visual Characteristics

The garden occupies an oval area of approximately 5,000 square meters, featuring a formal layout with paved pathways and seating benches. It contains over 300 varieties of roses, comprising approximately 8,000 rose bushes, displaying a spectrum of colors including red, pink, white, yellow, and orange. Green foliage provides a backdrop to the blooms. A bronze statue of Princess Grace is centrally located within the garden.

Location & Access Logistics

The Princess Grace Rose Garden is situated within Fontvieille Park in the Fontvieille district of Monaco. It is located approximately 1.5 kilometers southwest of Monaco-Ville's central palace square. Public underground parking is available at Parking du Chemin des Roses or Parking de Fontvieille, both within a short walking distance. Public transport options include bus lines 4 and 5, with stops such as "Fontvieille Centre Commercial" or "Roseraie" providing access to the park area.

Historical & Ecological Origin

The garden was inaugurated on June 18, 1984, by Prince Rainier III. It was created in memory of his wife, Princess Grace of Monaco. The landscape architect responsible for its design was Jean Mus.

Key Highlights & Activities

Visitors can walk along the designated paved paths to observe and identify the diverse rose varieties. Each rose bush is labeled with its specific name, origin, and year of creation. Photography is permitted, and benches are available for seating and contemplation.

Infrastructure & Amenities

Restroom facilities are available within the broader Fontvieille Park area. Shade within the rose garden itself is limited, as it is primarily an open-air floral display. Cell phone signal (4G/5G) is generally strong throughout the area. Cafes and restaurants are located within Fontvieille Park and the adjacent Fontvieille shopping center.

Best Time to Visit

The optimal time to visit for viewing the roses in full bloom is during spring, from April to June, and early autumn, from September to October. Visiting during the morning or late afternoon hours provides softer light for photography and generally fewer crowds.

Facts & Legends

The garden employs environmentally friendly maintenance practices, including biological pest control methods. A specific rose variety, the 'Princesse de Monaco' rose, is cultivated within the collection, honoring its namesake.
