Vakkaru Maldives is situated in the Baa Atoll, approximately 120 kilometers northwest of Velana International Airport (MLE) in Malé. Access is primarily via seaplane transfer from MLE, a journey of approximately 30 minutes. Alternatively, guests can take a domestic flight to Dharavandhoo Airport (DRV) followed by a 20-minute speedboat transfer. There is no direct road access from Malé.

The island's origin is geological, formed by the accumulation of coral polyps over millennia, a common characteristic of Maldivian atolls. The resort was developed as a luxury tourism destination, with construction completed in 2017.
