The Warwick Neck Lighthouse is a historic navigational aid situated on a peninsula in Warwick, Rhode Island. It marks the entrance to Greenwich Bay.

Visual Characteristics

The lighthouse structure is an octagonal tower constructed from granite blocks. It stands approximately 45 feet tall. The tower is painted white, with a black lantern room at the apex. A red brick keeper's house, also octagonal, is attached to the base of the tower.

The lighthouse is located at the southern tip of Warwick Neck, approximately 8 miles south of downtown Warwick. Access is via Warwick Neck Avenue, turning onto Lighthouse Road. Public parking is available at the end of Lighthouse Road. There are no direct public transport routes to the lighthouse itself; bus routes terminate several miles away.

Construction of the Warwick Neck Lighthouse was completed in 1827. It was built to guide ships into Greenwich Bay and protect the harbor. The site is composed of glacial till and bedrock.

Visitors can observe the exterior of the lighthouse and keeper's house. The grounds offer views of Narragansett Bay. Photography of the structure and surrounding coastline is permitted. Access to the interior of the lighthouse is restricted.

For photography, the late afternoon provides favorable lighting conditions on the western-facing facade of the lighthouse. The best months for visiting are typically May through October, avoiding winter weather conditions.

A notable historical detail is that the original lighthouse keeper, Silas W. Burdick, served for over 40 years. The lighthouse was automated in 1917, ending the need for a resident keeper.
