Visual Characteristics
The cave features a variety of mineral formations, including stalactites, stalagmites, and flowstone. The rock composition is primarily dolomite. Facts & Legends
A unique feature of the Cave of the Mounds is the presence of "Lily Pads," thin, disc-shaped calcite formations that float on shallow pools of water. Local folklore sometimes attributes the cave's formation to ancient underground rivers or even mythical creatures, though geological evidence points to standard karst processes.
