Centerville Park is situated 3 kilometers south of Butte's central business district. Access is via Park Avenue, which connects directly to Interstate 15 at Exit 127. A dedicated parking lot with 75 spaces is available on the east side of the park. Public transport is served by the Butte-Silver Bow Transit Route 3, with a stop located at the intersection of Park Avenue and Elm Street, 200 meters from the main entrance.

The land was acquired by the City of Butte in 1955 through a land grant from the Anaconda Company. Development as a park commenced in 1960, with the pond constructed in 1965. The area is situated on a plateau formed by glacial activity during the Pleistocene epoch. The dominant vegetation is adapted to the semi-arid climate of southwestern Montana.
