The cave is an overhang of granite rock, approximately 10 meters wide and 5 meters deep. The rock face is weathered, displaying shades of grey and brown. The ceiling of the overhang is relatively smooth, while the floor is uneven rock.

Cobra Hood Cave is situated on the western side of the Sigiriya Rock Fortress complex. Access is via the main pathway leading to the Sigiriya Rock entrance. The cave is approximately 1 kilometer from the Sigiriya village center. Parking is available at the main Sigiriya Rock entrance ticket office. No specific bus lines directly serve the cave; visitors typically arrive via bus to Sigiriya town and then walk or take a tuk-tuk to the fortress entrance.
