Historical & Ecological Origin

The railway depot was originally constructed in 1892 by the St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern Railway. Its purpose was to serve as a passenger and freight station for the growing community of Russellville. The park itself was established on land acquired by the city in the mid-20th century and underwent significant renovation in the early 2000s to preserve the depot and enhance recreational facilities.

Key Highlights & Activities

Visitors can explore the exterior of the historic railway depot. The park offers open lawn areas suitable for passive recreation. A children's playground is available. Walking paths are present throughout the park. The pavilion can be reserved for small gatherings.

Infrastructure & Amenities

Restrooms are located within the restored depot building. Several picnic tables are situated under shade trees. Cell phone signal (4G/5G) is generally strong within the park. No on-site food vendors are present, but several restaurants are located within a 0.5km radius along Main Street.

Best Time to Visit

The park is accessible year-round during daylight hours. For photography of the depot, early morning or late afternoon light provides optimal illumination. Spring (April-May) and Fall (September-October) offer the most comfortable temperatures for outdoor activities.

Facts & Legends

A local anecdote suggests that during its operational years, the depot was a frequent stop for traveling salesmen who would share stories and local news, contributing to its role as an informal community hub beyond its railway function.
