This resort property encompasses a stretch of coastline on the western side of Dhigurah island.

Visual Characteristics

The resort features beachfront villas constructed with thatched roofs and natural wood elements. The sand on the beach is fine-grained and white. The ocean water exhibits a gradient from pale turquoise near the shore to a deeper blue further out. Vegetation consists of coconut palms and tropical shrubs.

Location & Access Logistics

Dhigurah Beach Resort is located approximately 350 kilometers south of Malé International Airport (MLE). Access is primarily via domestic flight from Malé to Kooddoo Airport (GKK), followed by a 15-minute speedboat transfer to Dhigurah island. Alternatively, a seaplane transfer from Malé directly to the island is available. There is no direct road access from Malé; the island is reached by air and sea.

Historical & Ecological Origin

Dhigurah island is a natural landmass formed by coral accretion over geological time. The resort itself was developed as a tourism facility, with construction commencing in the early 2000s to capitalize on the island's marine environment and beaches.

Key Highlights & Activities

Activities include snorkeling and diving in the surrounding coral reefs, whale shark and manta ray excursions (seasonal), dolphin watching tours, and kayaking. Guests can also participate in guided island walks and enjoy the resort's private beach area.

Infrastructure & Amenities

The resort provides private villas with en-suite bathrooms. On-site amenities include a restaurant, a bar, and a reception area. Wi-Fi is available in common areas and some villas. Cell phone signal (4G) is generally available on the island. Restrooms are located within the villas and at the main resort buildings. Shade is provided by natural vegetation and resort structures.

Best Time to Visit

The dry season, from December to April, offers the most favorable weather conditions with lower humidity and minimal rainfall. For whale shark sightings, the period from August to November is often recommended. Sunrise and sunset provide optimal lighting for photography of the beach and ocean.

Facts & Legends

Dhigurah translates to "long island" in the local Dhivehi language, referring to its elongated shape. The island is known for its resident population of whale sharks, which can be observed year-round, though sightings are more frequent during specific periods.
