The George B. Parker Woodland Wildlife Refuge is a protected natural area located in Coventry, Rhode Island.

The refuge is situated approximately 5 kilometers west of the Coventry town center. Access is via Parker Road, a paved public street. Parking is available at a designated gravel lot at the trailhead on Parker Road. No public transportation services directly reach the refuge entrance.

Historical & Ecological Origin

The land was acquired by the state of Rhode Island through a donation from the Parker family in 1972. Ecologically, it represents a typical northeastern woodland ecosystem with associated wetland features.

Hiking is permitted on marked trails. Birdwatching is a primary activity due to the diverse avian population. Observation of small mammals and amphibians is also possible.

There are no restroom facilities or food vendors within the refuge. Cell phone signal is intermittent. Limited natural shade is available from the tree canopy.

The refuge is known for its population of Eastern Box Turtles, a species that has seen declining numbers in other areas. Local folklore suggests the area was once a favored hunting ground for indigenous tribes.
