Historical & Ecological Origin
The park was established in the late 1930s on the site of the former Herăstrău estate, which was primarily agricultural land. The lake was formed by damming the Colentina River. The park's development was part of a larger urban planning initiative for Bucharest. The Village Museum, an open-air ethnographic museum showcasing traditional Romanian village architecture, was inaugurated in 1936 within the park's grounds.

Visitors can rent boats and bicycles. Walking and jogging are common activities on the park's pathways. The open-air Village Museum offers exploration of traditional Romanian houses and structures. The park hosts various cultural events and festivals throughout the year. Fishing is permitted in designated areas of the lake. The Japanese Garden provides a distinct landscape experience.

Cell phone signal (4G/5G) is generally strong throughout the park. Food and beverage vendors, including cafes and small restaurants, are located within the park and immediately adjacent to its entrances.

For photography, early morning (7:00 AM - 9:00 AM) offers softer light and fewer crowds. Late afternoon (4:00 PM - 6:00 PM) also provides favorable lighting conditions. The best months for visiting are from April to October, when the weather is mild and vegetation is at its peak. Summer months (July-August) can be hot. No specific tide requirements apply.
