The Hoover Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam located on the Colorado River, straddling the border between Nevada and Arizona, near Boulder City, USA.
It was constructed between 1931 and 1936 during the Great Depression.

The Hoover Dam is located approximately 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada. Access is via U.S. Route 93. Facts & Legends
During construction, the concrete was poured in 3.5-foot-thick blocks and cooled with a system of pipes to prevent cracking. A common misconception is that the dam is named after President Herbert Hoover, but it was officially named Boulder Dam until 1947 when it was renamed Hoover Dam.
