Iona's Beach is situated 5 kilometers east of Two Harbors, Minnesota. Access is via County Road 4 (also known as Scenic Drive). A small, unpaved parking area is available directly off County Road 4. No public transport services this location.

The beach is a result of glacial action and the subsequent erosion of the ancient volcanic bedrock of the North Shore. The pink coloration of the pebbles is attributed to the presence of felsic volcanic rocks, specifically rhyolite, which are rich in feldspar.
