The carousel was originally built in 1922 by the William F. Mangels Company for the Riverside Amusement Park in Long Island City, Queens. It was later moved to Battery Park in Manhattan before being acquired by Jane Walentas in the late 1980s. Walentas undertook a comprehensive restoration over several years before its installation in Brooklyn Bridge Park in 2011.
